The overland journey from Puerto Princesa to El Nido is the most common route for travelers arriving at Palawan's main airport. While 5-6 hours in a van might sound daunting, the drive passes through Palawan's interior with views of rice paddies, coconut plantations, and jungle-covered mountains.

Multiple van companies operate this route daily, with departures starting as early as 4:00 AM. The road is mostly well-paved with occasional rough patches. A restroom and food stop is usually made around the midpoint in Roxas.

  1. Puerto Princesa Airport / City Start

    Pick up from hotels or the airport. Vans depart from the San Jose Terminal or arranged hotel pickup.
  2. Roxas Rest Stop Rest
    ~120 km from start 15-20 min here
    Midpoint rest stop in the town of Roxas. Restrooms, small eateries, and shops. Usually a 15-20 minute break.
    Tip: Grab food here. The next stop is El Nido.
  3. El Nido Town End
    ~230 km from start Arrival here
    Arrival at the El Nido bus terminal or hotel drop-off. Most vans drop off at the terminal near the town center.

Book the day before: vans can fill up, especially in peak season. Your hotel can arrange this.

Sit in front for a less bumpy ride and better views. Worth asking for.

Bring snacks and water because the rest stop has limited options.

Morning departure recommended: you'll arrive in El Nido with daylight to spare.
