On September 24, 1944, a fleet of US Navy planes attacked Japanese ships sheltering in Coron Bay, sinking at least 12 vessels. Today, these wrecks form one of the world's premier wreck diving destinations, attracting divers from around the globe.

The main wrecks include the Akitsushima (seaplane tender, 30m), Irako (refrigeration ship, 34m), Okikawa Maru (tanker, 26m), and the Kogyo Maru (freighter, 34m). Each wreck offers different penetration opportunities and marine life encounters.

Diving depths range from 16 to 40+ meters. Some wrecks are suitable for advanced open water divers, while deeper penetration dives require wreck diving certification. Most dive shops in Coron offer PADI courses and guided wreck dives.

Even if you don't dive, the Skeleton Wreck is snorkelable from the surface.

Local tip
Book a multi-dive package (3-5 dives) for better prices. The Irako and Akitsushima are the most impressive wrecks. Bring an underwater flashlight for penetration dives. Best visibility: March-June.
