Comiran Island

Comiran Island is home to a community of Sama-Bajau people, the legendary "sea gypsies" of Southeast Asia who have lived on and around the water for centuries. Visiting the island offers a rare glimpse into one of the world's most unique maritime cultures.

The island has beautiful beaches and incredibly clear water. The Sama-Bajau are renowned for their free-diving ability. Some can dive to 20+ meters on a single breath. If you visit respectfully, community members may share their fishing techniques and way of life.

This is cultural tourism at its most authentic and sensitive. There are no facilities, and visits should be arranged through a local guide from Balabac town who has a relationship with the community.
