Santa Monica Parish Church, Taytay
Augustinian Recollect friars founded Taytay in 1623 and dedicated the town to Santa Monica, mother of Saint Augustine. The parish church that carries her name stands a short walk from Fort Santa Isabel, and its thick walls of cut coral stone date from the Spanish period.
Inside, the nave is simple: stone side walls, a timber roof and wooden pews. The front has been rebuilt and whitewashed, but the old stonework is still easy to see along the sides.
It is an active parish, busiest for Sunday Mass and the feast of Santa Monica in late August. Pair it with the fort for an hour's walk around the old town.

Take a bus or van to Taytay town from El Nido (1.5 to 2 hours) or Puerto Princesa (4 to 5 hours).

From the terminal, take a tricycle to the poblacion waterfront near Fort Santa Isabel (short trips around town are about P20).

The church is a short walk from the fort gate. Step in quietly if a service is on.
