Port Barton is one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites in Palawan. The Pawikan (Filipino for sea turtle) Sanctuary is a community-run conservation project that protects nesting sites and rehabilitates injured turtles.
Visitors can see rescued green and hawksbill turtles in rehabilitation pools, learn about the conservation program, and, during nesting season (September to February), potentially witness turtle hatchling releases at sunrise.
The sanctuary operates on donations and is staffed by local volunteers. It's a small but meaningful visit that highlights the environmental importance of Port Barton's coastline.

Visit during nesting season (Sep-Feb) for a chance to see hatchling releases at dawn. Ask your guesthouse. They'll know when the next release is scheduled. Donations help keep the program running.
