Barracuda Lake
Barracuda Lake is one of the most unique diving and snorkeling experiences in the world. This volcanic lake sits in a limestone crater with water temperatures that shift dramatically, from 28°C at the surface to 38°C at depth, creating visible thermoclines that blur your vision like a mirage.
Named after a giant barracuda skeleton found in the lake, the underwater scenery is otherworldly. Massive limestone boulders and walls create a cathedral-like environment, and the incredible visibility (15m+) makes it feel like flying through an alien landscape.
Even without diving, the lake is stunning for swimming and snorkeling. The access involves a short but steep climb over rocks from the boat dock.

Barracuda Lake is a stop on Tour B and on the Ultimate Coron Island tour, about 30 minutes by boat from the Coron town pier.

From the boat you cross a short wooden boardwalk and staircase over jagged limestone, a climb of about five minutes, before descending to the water.

The draw is the thermocline: the surface sits around 25 to 28 degrees and the water turns startlingly warm a few metres down, which makes it a well known freediving and scuba site.

Life jackets are required for swimmers, and the lake closes in the late afternoon under Tagbanua rules, so it is normally visited before 4pm.
