About
Patawan Island features one of Balabac's many stunning sandbars: a narrow ribbon of white sand connecting the main island to a smaller rocky islet. The sandbar is fully exposed at low tide and partially submerged at high tide, creating different scenery throughout the day.
The island is uninhabited and undeveloped. The water around it is crystal clear with good snorkeling on the reef that fringes the rocky islet. At the right tide, the combination of white sand, turquoise shallows, and deep blue beyond creates a color palette that looks digitally enhanced.
Like all Balabac islands, reaching Patawan requires a boat charter from Balabac town as part of a multi-island tour.
Local tip
Visit at the transition between low and high tide, when the sandbar is partially submerged, creating shallow turquoise pools perfect for photos.
