About
Mansalangan Sandbar is a stunning natural phenomenon: a massive tongue of white sand that emerges from the sea at low tide, surrounded by nothing but turquoise water stretching to the horizon in every direction. Standing on it feels like standing on another planet.
The sandbar is part of the Mansalangan Reef system, a large shallow reef in the Balabac Strait. At low tide, the sandbar can extend hundreds of meters. At high tide, it disappears completely beneath the waves.
Getting here requires a boat from Balabac town (1-2 hours depending on weather). The area is completely undeveloped: no shade, no facilities, nothing but sand, sea, and sky.
Local tip
Time your visit with low tide. The sandbar is only fully exposed for a few hours. Bring a tent or tarp for shade, there is none. Sunscreen is critical.
