Balabac Town
Balabac Town is the southernmost settlement of any size in Palawan, located on the northern tip of Balabac Island. The town has a distinct cultural character: the population is predominantly Muslim (unlike most of Palawan), reflecting its proximity to the Sulu Archipelago and Borneo.
The town has basic infrastructure: a few lodges, sari-sari stores, a small market, and boat operators for island tours. Don't expect tourist facilities. This is frontier territory. The mosque and the market are the main landmarks.
Balabac Town is where all island-hopping expeditions begin and end. It's worth spending an evening here to experience the unique cultural blend of Palawan and Sulu influences. The food, music, and hospitality are distinctly different from northern Palawan.
