A community association runs this tour on the mangrove river beside Sabang wharf: about 45 minutes in a paddled banca, gliding under a closed canopy of mangrove while a local guide explains the ecosystem and, with any luck, sings to you.
Expect kingfishers, herons, mudskippers skittering over the roots, and sometimes a mangrove snake coiled on a branch, harmless from the boat, and the guides know every regular's favorite tree.
It's the perfect filler while you wait for your Underground River slot, and the fee goes to the village association that protects this forest.
How to get there

Take a van or jeepney from San Jose Terminal in Puerto Princesa to Sabang wharf (about 2 hours).

Facing the sea, walk right (east) along the dirt road behind the beach, past Daluyon Beach and Mountain Resort.

After about 10 to 15 minutes you reach the bamboo ticket hut by the river mouth; pay and join the next boat.

A guide paddles you about 1.2 km up the river and back, roughly 45 minutes on the water.

Local tip
Ask at the wharf desk for a high-tide departure; the boats get much further upriver. Morning light is best for birds, and bring insect repellent: it's a mangrove forest, it has opinions about exposed ankles.
