About
German Island (named after a German expat who lived here) is famous for its resident sea turtle population. Snorkeling in the seagrass beds around the island offers frequent turtle encounters. These gentle giants graze in the shallows and are habituated to swimmers.
The beach itself is stunning white sand with good shade from palm trees. The island is part of the standard Port Barton island-hopping tour.
The combination of turtle encounters and beautiful beaches makes German Island a highlight that rivals spots costing three times more in El Nido.
How to get there

Port Barton is reached by van from Puerto Princesa in about three hours, or from El Nido in four to five hours.

German Island is about 6.5 km north of the village and is reached by boat as an island hopping stop.

It is a private island, so expect a P100 per person entrance on arrival, and carry cash for it.

Check availability in the village before booking. The resort that controls landings has not withdrawn a closure notice posted after Typhoon Odette, and the most recently updated operator lists no route stopping there.

Swim quietly toward the seagrass area, where the turtles feed. Don't chase them, let them come to you. Underwater camera essential.
